Tutorial: Easy Whirlygig/Wild Thing Block

Note: Must iron blocks before picture

We whipped up these blocks blocks last week from the L'Amour fabric. Here's an easy tutorial on how to make a wild thing/whirlygig block:

For one 12" finished block you will need:
  • 2 colored rectangles- 6" x 6.5"
  • 2 white rectangles- 6.5" x 8"
1. Cut out your colored blocks 6" x 6.5". Stack your colored blocks as high as you feel comfortable cutting through. Layout your blocks so that the 6.5" side is along the bottom of your rotary mat.

2. Line up your ruler so that there's 2.5" on alternating sides. (see picture above.)

3. Cut your colored blocks along the lined up ruler. They should look like the picture above.

 4.  Cut out your white blocks 6.5" x 8". Stack your white blocks as high as you feel comfortable cutting through. Layout your blocks so that the 6.5" side is along the bottom of your rotary mat.

 5. Line up your ruler so that there's 3.5" on alternating sides. (see picture above.)

6.Cut your white blocks along the lined up ruler. They should look like the picture above.

7. Sew a colored piece to a white piece. Layout your blocks like the above picture. Sew them all together.
